Just a few months ago, Davídek's world was full of laughter, games, and plans. He is eight years old and should be enjoying school, playing soccer or ping-pong with his friends, and spending time with his beloved dog.
Instead, today his family no longer knows how much time they have left together or how they will be able to spend it.
In the spring of 2025, Davídek suffered a complicated fracture of his arm after a fall. What seemed like an ordinary injury became the beginning of a series of events that turned his family's life upside down within just a few months.
Shortly after the accident, his parents began to notice changes in his behavior and development. Davídek became more anxious and withdrawn, and he started forgetting things and skills he had previously mastered without difficulty.
In September 2025, doctors deliverred a devastating diagnosis –X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy, a very rare inherited neurodegenerative metabolic disease.
This disease gradually damages the brain and nervous system. Davídek’s ability to orient himself in space, process visual and auditory information, understand the world around him, and coordinate his movements is steadily declining. Once a cheerful and sociable boy he is now afraid of strangers and and feels safest at home, by his mother’s side.
Sadly the disease is already at an advanced stage and there is currently no available treatment that could stop its progression. Doctors are unable to predict how quickly the disease will progress or how much time Davídek has left.
How will the fundraiser help?
Davídek's mother stays at home with him to provide 24-hour care. As a result she has lost her income, while the family faces increasing expenses related to medical care, assistive equipment and necessary home modifications. Davídek´s father works as a carpenter, but his income alone is not enough to cover the growing and unavoidable costs of the specialized care Davídek will need.
The fundraiser aims to help the family get through this extremely difficult period without additional financial stress.
The collection is set up to help the family in the near future, when care will gradually become more demanding and expensive. Part of the funds will be used to cover immediate needs, while another part will create a reserve for for future medical and care-related expenses, which are very likely given the rapid progression of the disease.
The fundraiser will help to:
· replace the loss of income of Davídek´s mother, who provides constant care - and cannot work or rest due to Davídek's strong emotional dependence on her;
· make the home safer, including the purchase of a positioning bed and necessary barrier-free bathroom modifications in their older house, which is currently unsuitable for caring for a person with limited mobility;
· purchase mobility and assistive aids such as walker, special stroller or wheelchair as Davídek's condition changes;
· cover the cost of supportive therapies and rehabilitation, that cannot stop the disease,but can improve the comfort and quality of Davídek's life;
· provide sensory aids for stimulation, calming and a sense of safety, as Davídek increasingly struggles to orient himself in the world around him and often experiences anxiety and fear;
· enable home-based palliative or hospice care so Davídek can remain at home for as long as possible, in the environment where he feels safest - with his mother;
· cover the rising costs of hygiene, positioning and medical supplies, not always covered by insurance;
· purchase breathing support if needed, which is especially likely given Davídek’s asthma.
Every contribution will help this family face the most difficult period of their lives with greater peace of mind and allow Davídek to spend the time he has left as calmly and with as much dignity as possible - at home, with his mother.
You can also help by sharing the collection with your friends and loved ones. Even t his simple act the family that they are not alone in this difficult situation.
If not all collected funds are used, the remaining amount will be donated to another terminally ill child living in the same village as Davídek, or to other children in need.
The family is deeply grateful for any support.
