For Michálek’s Smile – the strength of a little fighter who never gives up

Little Michálek is now seven years old. From the moment he was born, he had to fight for his life. After just one week came the hardest trial of all – organ failure, a desperate battle for survival… and a cruel consequence: severe brain damage on both sides.

Doctors gave this tiny boy almost no hope. They told us his chance of survival was only 3–5 years at most, and that he would likely remain bedridden for life. They said we should prepare for the worst.

With this came a number of serious diagnoses that he carries to this day: epilepsy – West syndrome spastic quadriparesis of all limbs, lack of visual fixation and nystagmus (uncontrolled eye movements), PEG for receiving food and many other complications that affect every day of his life.

And yet… he is here. A little big fighter who smiles, loves, and never gives up.

Thanks to your help and to the therapies he receives, Michálek’s epilepsy has improved – the seizures are less frequent and his examinations clearly show progress. He has already overcome so many obstacles – golden staphylococcus, bronchopneumonia, severe epileptic episodes. This year he also fought a severe flu that led to respiratory failure. He had to be intubated and put into an induced coma, with machines keeping him alive.

Half a year after this ordeal, he faced hypoxia – critically low oxygen levels in the blood. And once again, he fought his way through it. Once again, he fought for his life. Once again, he breathed. And once again… he continues his battle.

He has undergone stem cell therapy, intensive neurorehabilitation, dolphin therapy, BrainTaping, energy therapy, and daily exercises that keep pushing him forward. He has begun holding his head better, responding more, smiling, and even managed to say “hello” several times in his very own way – something that once seemed impossible. One of the greatest miracles is that his nystagmus has completely disappeared, and he now fixes his gaze much better. For his development, this is a huge step forward.

During this year’s dolphin therapy, his physiotherapist told us words we will never forget:

“If Michálek continues like this… he may soon be able to sit. And maybe even make his first step.”

That is why regular therapy and daily exercise are absolutely vital for him. He has already overcome life-threatening conditions, and we never want him to return to those darkest moments. Every day of therapy strengthens his body and brain and keeps him moving forward. Rehabilitation is essential – it is the fight he must continue so that he can grow, develop, and live a happy, dignified life with his loving family. The therapies that help him – dolphin therapy, neurorehabilitation, BrainTaping, energy therapy, stem cell treatment – are not covered by insurance. The same applies to many medical aids he needs every single day.

That is why we are asking for help. We cannot do this alone. But together, we can achieve the impossible. Purchase of medical equipment and supplies for daily care and to improve his mobility and quality of life
