Come and play music together

We are raising money to organise an open air concert, Come and Play With Us, which is for all shy musicians and those who want to try what it's like to play in an orchestra. The event is for anyone interested in playing simple repertoire together. Karolína Ruppert's Children's hLasky will join the musicians again this year and together they will perform the song Baba Yetu, the well-known song Let's rejoice from Bedřich Smetana's The Bartered Bride and other pieces.

The event will take place on Sunday 26 May 2024 on Střelecký ostrov in Prague. The concert will start at 3:00 pm and the public and only general rehearsal is scheduled for 12:30 pm.

The event is free of charge.

The performance on the stage is open to all those who are able to play at least part of the repertoire, registration for musicians and audience participation is free. We would like to help children and young musicians from all over the Czech Republic, who together would create a one-off orchestra under the direction of a professional conductor, with the support of professional musicians and aspiring musicians from the Harmonie Orchestra. They can also play with the top Czech pianist Ivo Kahánek, who is the patron of the NF Harmonie. The concert will be supported by actress Simona Stašová, who has been a patron of the NF Harmonie since its foundation in 2009.

Your donation will help pay for the rental of the orchestra stage, piano and percussion instruments, which we do not have available.

The Harmony Foundation believes it is possible to change children's lives through music. That's why it establishes children's string orchestras and makes it possible for all children to start playing an instrument in a group under professional guidance, free of charge. The project was founded in 1975 in Venezuela, named El Sistema, and has since developed successfully in the USA, Canada and 24 countries in Europe. The idea of socially preventive music education came to the Czech Republic in 2009. Currently, we operate in Prague 1 (14 children - 3 hours once a week), Prague 5 (20 children - 2 hours 2 times a week) and Prague 9 (42 children 3 times a week 2.25 hours and 2 times a week 1.5 hours). During the school year we organize 8-10 events for the public. The Come and Play With Us open air concert, to which we invite all young musicians to come and play with the children from our orchestras, is the biggest public event of the year.
