Blue Key: Building a Brighter Future for the Disabled

For 30 years, the "Modrý Klíč (Blue Key)" has been supporting children and adults with disabilities in and around Prague. It was established by parents who, in the early 1990s, couldn't find adequate support for their children with severe mental and other combined disabilities. The Modrý Klíč grows with its clients and adapts to their needs.

A looming concern for aging parents is: What will happen to their children once they're gone?

The Modrý Klíč aims to address this issue by expanding their services to include a residence where clients can live out their old age with dignity. The organization has already provided housing to three clients who unexpectedly lost their parents. Today, there are five such clients in residence, and the demand for this service is immense.

Therefore, we're building a small house in our garden for an additional 6 individuals with special needs! We have the investment plan ready and are also working on the implementation project for a prefabricated building for rapid construction. An estimated amount of 650,000 CZK (approx. 28,000 USD) is needed for the essential equipment. However, we cannot raise this amount by ourselves, and we earnestly request your help in building this home. If successful, it will be constructed in 2024.

What will we need for the house?

- Adjustable beds (for users whose condition requires it)

- Decubitus mattresses with waterproof surfaces

- Assistance lifting and transport systems in bedrooms for users with severe mobility disabilities

- Height-adjustable tables and storage furniture

Clients with special needs:

Šárka has been with the Modrý Klíč since her early childhood. She has severe mental disabilities with combined impairments (physical disability – quadriparesis, epilepsy, visual impairment). She is wheelchair-bound and relies on the assistance of others. The Modrý Klíč once gave Šárka's mother hope for a fulfilling life and quality education and care for her daughter. She attended our special nursery and primary school and currently attends the day center. Today, Šárka is an adult, and her parents, now in their early senior years, wish to secure a home for her where she can live without their daily support. This fundraising effort will ensure she gets a room with the necessary amenities.

What makes the Modrý Klíč unique?

The family atmosphere of the Modern Klíč stems from the utmost involvement of the parents. Many parents also work with us. The director built the entire facility around her son Tomáš, who has severe mental and physical disabilities. We guide our clients and their families from school-age (special kindergarten and primary school) to vocational education and subsequent practice (ceramics workshop, woodworking, kitchen, garden...). We also offer residential services, weekly centers, and a home where our users live. A wide range of therapies is also available.

We have top-notch rehabilitation, a swimming pool, an art gallery, organize trips, stays, hold an annual music festival, and offer joint vacations for client families. We're open to trying anything that helps! Will you symbolically join our family? Everyone is welcome!
