The Czech floods have hit a human rights defender. Let’s support her!

I’ve known Elena going on 20 years and right now she needs our aid. She wouldn’t hesitate even one minute to assist others.

Elena Gorolová has become a symbol of the victims of forced sterilization in the former Czechoslovakia. For more than 20 years she fought to achieve recognition of the wrong that was committed against all who were sterilized without their free and informed consent in the former Czechoslovakia and Czech Republic and to achieve redress for them. In 2018 she was included on the list of 100 inspirational women in the world, annually compiled by the BBC, for her advocacy. She and others were responsible for the adoption of Act No. 297/2021, Coll., on providing a one-time payment to the unlawfully sterilized, thanks to which forced sterilization victims are able to apply for compensation until the end of this year. 

 She has aided many people and right now she is the one who needs our assistance.

Elena used her own compensation to improve the apartment where she lives with her family. Then came the 2024 floods, which destroyed the entire interior of both her apartment and her mother’s apartment. Neither household was insured, unfortunately. Elena strove to achieve compensation for everybody for so long, and now she herself has nothing to show for it. Now is the time to come to her aid!
